Custom Heat Seal Tooling

Get a repeatable, perfect seal - each time

We have partnered with United Silicone, Inc. (USI) to offer heat seal tooling utilizing their proprietary thermally conductive silicone. This material is a direct alternative to traditional metal-on-metal sealing technology, providing a more forgiving sealing surface. Unlike typical silicone or rubber sheets, our products withstand higher temperatures and compression pressure, while providing a precision-ground surface.

Heat seal tooling options include:

  • Seal Bars and Jaws
  • Seal Heads
  • Magnetic Mounting Blocks
  • Part Support Fixtures and Seal Nests
  • Silicone Rubber Sheets (bonded and unbonded)
  • Silicone Coated Rollers

Due to the variety of containers and film materials, heat seal tooling is often customized to fit the machine and or application. OEM packaging machinery builders offer direct replacement, metal on metal components, which may not work for your application. Our custom heat seal tooling may be the solution you need.

When you work with ISM on your heat seal tooling challenges, you get access to:

  • Expert engineering support from ISM and United Silicone
  • Dedicated account manager to guide you through the customization process
  • Custom SolidWorks models and drawings for review
  • Prototypes to optimize your heat-sealing process
  • ISO 9001:2015 quality processes assurance
  • Additional Value Add Services are available

Customer Success

Rich’s Ice Cream was faced with failing heat seal tooling, causing extensive down-time and high tooling costs. ISM followed our process of discovering the issue, developing and testing a prototype, and supporting replacement tooling.

Customized Heat Seal Tooling Process

You have unique heat seal tooling needs and machine geometry challenges. But you don't have the time or capacity to generate tooling prototypes and optimize your heat-sealing process. Therefore, collaborate with ISM to get precise, reliably strong, high-quality sealing with expert heat seal tool engineering support from ISM and United Silicone.

What’s it like to work with us

Infographic depicting the common steps I S M takes in a custom project including discovery, quotation, prototyping, testing, and recoating.

Common steps we will take when working with you on your custom project

Discovery

We will start by getting an in-depth analysis & assessment of your specific needs, what has and has not functioned for you in the past as well as your specific needs including the machine format, dwell time, cycle time, sealing temperature, & application (ie - Seal Bar, Seal Head, Support Fixture).

Quotation/Prototyping

Once we master the specific, distinct, and specialized needs of your application we will develop a quotation for creating prototype part(s), depending on what needs to be tested to determine the precise solution. Then, our expert engineering team will create prototyping for your unique applications. All customized products are made to order at our manufacturing partner's United Silicone facility in Lancaster, NY (near Buffalo/Niagara Falls).

Depending on the application the process may include:

  • A mold to apply silicone-to-metal or create an unbonded, silicone tool.
  • The foundation (which enables a tool to be recoated vs. disposable) or metal part if needed
  • The silicone covering
  • And a timeline to design and build the product

Testing and Performance Optimization

Once you have tested the prototypes, and we optimize the part performance to your needs, we will ask that you provide us the number of parts and frequency of delivery (for example 120 parts per year at 10 per month) then we can determine the number of molds or cavities on the mold that will be needed to meet your schedule.

Factory Recoating

Depending on the part configuration and structural integrity, your parts may be recoatable, which means they can be returned to the factory when the silicone becomes ‘worn out’. We will walk you through the steps to have your part(s) recoated with compliant material. Then, we strip off the ‘worn out’ silicone, clean up the part and reapply a new silicone covering at a cost-effective price.

Our Promise

We ensure that you will get the most out of your product(s) performance by promoting sustainability while eliminating leakers & product waste. Our products have repeatable performance with less downtime, longer production runs, easy change mounting systems, and precision fit/sealing.
